Eight is the number of Hermes, the divine messenger of the gods and father of alchemy. On its side, the numeral 8 becomes the sign of infinity, linking it to the idea of boundless expansion and eternal return. To seek the heart of Wisdom is to try and understand the patterns of the universe, to see into the grand machinery of the majesty around us.

The Law of Octaves was first outlined by Pythagoras who upon recognizing patterns in sound, tried to unify art, science, philosophy and mysticism in a grand cosmology. The octave has had in incredible impact on the development of such diverse fields as computers, biology, & art. From the Gnostics 8 gates of the Pleroma to the Buddhist Eight-Fold Path and the Witch's Eight-Fold Solar Wheel, the eight has always represented stability & completeness. The octave has been linked to I Ching, DNA code, Gurdjieff's Consciousness Levels, Leary's Circuits, computer binary notation, overtones of music, and eight chemical families.

The eight shrines are designed to express the panoply of human experience. These currents of magick can be seen as aspects of life, planes of existence, values, magickal methodologies, psychological states, or currents of energy.
